Frequently asked questions
Quick answers. For step-by-step help, see the guides.
The basics
Is Audiostacks free?
Yes. Create a stack, import your whole history and use every feature at no cost. There are no ads and no trial that runs out.#
What is Audiostacks?
One place for everything you read and listen to: audiobooks, ebooks, print books and podcasts. Keep an ordered Up next list, track what you’re on and what you’ve finished, get picks based on your whole history, compare where to get a title, and recommend it to a friend. You can also read or listen together with friends, without spoilers.#
Does it play audiobooks or podcasts?
No. Audiostacks keeps track of them and links you to where you listen or read: Libby, Audible, Apple Books, Kindle, Spotify, Overcast and others. Your listening stays in the apps you already use.#
Can I search for books I don’t have?
Yes. The search box at the top looks in your stack first, then finds books, audiobooks and podcasts you don’t have yet, including books that are coming soon. Open one to see what readers think and where to get it, and pick a shelf to add it. Add a coming-soon book to Up next or save it, and we’ll tell you when it’s out. How search works.#
Where can I see what’s new?
Every update is listed on What’s new, newest first, with links to the guides that explain them.#
Phones, tablets and computers
Do I need to download an app?
Can I put it on my home screen like an app?
Yes, and then it works like one: its own icon, full screen, offline, and notifications if you want them. The quickest way: tap your initials, then Get the app. iPhone and iPad: in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. Android: tap Install, or Chrome’s ⋮ menu, then Install app. Computer: choose Get the app from your initials, or File, then Add to Dock in Safari on a Mac. Step by step.#
Does it work offline?
Yes. After you’ve opened Audiostacks once while online, it opens and shows your stack with no connection, on a plane or the subway. Anything you change is saved and syncs when you’re back online.#
Can it send me notifications?
Which devices and browsers work?
iPhone, iPad, Android phones and tablets, Mac, Windows and Chromebook, in a current version of Safari, Chrome, Edge or Firefox. Everything is built for touch and small screens as well as a mouse and keyboard.#
Does my stack sync between devices?
Yes, automatically. Re-rank Up next on your laptop and it’s already in that order on your phone. Changes save as you make them, and if your connection drops, they sync as soon as you’re back online.#
How do I sign in on a second device?
Use a code from a device you’re already signed in on, or have a sign-in code emailed to you, then save a passkey on the new device. Step by step: Sign in on a new phone or computer.#
Signing in and your account
What’s a passkey?
A sign-in saved on your device and unlocked with your face, fingerprint or screen lock. There’s nothing to remember, and nothing that can be phished or leaked, because the secret part never leaves your device. More about passkeys.#
Is there a password?
No. You sign in with a passkey, or with a one-time code we email you. There is no password to create, forget or reset.#
I lost my phone. Can I still get in?
Yes. Choose Email me a sign-in code on the sign-in screen and use the code we send to the email on your account. Then save a passkey on your new device. You can remove the old passkey in settings. See Can’t sign in?#
Can I change my name or email?
You can change your name in settings. To change the email on your account, contact us from that email and we’ll update it.#
Bringing in your library
Which apps can I bring my history from?
Goodreads, Libby, Kindle, Audible, hoopla and Apple Podcasts need no export file; Audible, Kindle and hoopla are one click. Apple Books comes in from a Mac, and Spotify from its data download. StoryGraph, Bookmory, other podcast apps and any spreadsheet work with an export file, and you can paste a plain list from anywhere. You can also forward purchase and library emails to your private address. See Bring your library.#
Will importing add titles I already have twice?
No. Every title is matched against your stack, whether it comes from an import, the daily Goodreads check or Add. Subtitles, series tags and “Unabridged” are ignored when matching. Titles you already have are updated, never duplicated.#
What happens if an import has different dates than my stack?
We ask. Before anything is imported, titles whose start or finish dates differ are listed, and you choose for each one: keep yours, use the imported dates, or keep both if you read it twice. Adding a title you already have works the same way.#
Does Goodreads stay in sync?
Yes. After you paste your profile link, we check once a day for anything new and add it. Your Goodreads profile needs to be visible to anyone (Goodreads Settings, Privacy). Dates you’ve set in Audiostacks are never overwritten.#
Do you see my Audible or Amazon password?
No. The one-click import reads your library in your own browser while you’re signed in there, then hands the list to Audiostacks for you to check. Your password never comes to us.#
Listen Together and friends
What is Listen Together?
A room where you and friends read or listen to the same book or show, each in your own app. Everyone’s progress lands on one shared track, notes are pinned to the moment they’re about, and you can listen live together. How it works.#
Do we all need the same app or format?
No. One person can listen on Audible, another read on Kindle and another in print. Everyone enters where they are in their own units, and Audiostacks puts it on one track.#
How do you keep spoilers out?
Every note, reaction, poll and reply is pinned to the spot in the book where it was written, and we only send you what’s at or behind where you are. Anything ahead shows as a lock until you get there.#
Does it cost anything?
No. Rooms, live sessions, clubs and friends are free, like the rest of Audiostacks. Everyone needs a free account to join.#
How do I invite a friend?
Tap your initials, then Invite friends. Pick a book they’d love and add a note if you like, then share it by message, email, WhatsApp, a link or a QR code. When they join, you’re friends right away. How it works.#
What can my friends see?
What you’re on now, what you finished lately (with your ratings) and, if you allow it, your Up next. Turn any of that off in Friends, under Privacy. Friends never see your notes, reviews or anything else.#
Can strangers find me or message me?
No. There’s no search for people and no messaging. Someone can only become your friend with your link or from a room you’re both in, and only room members see a room.#
Privacy and your data
Who can see my stack?
Only you, unless you choose to share. Friends you add see what you’re on and what you finished lately (you can turn that off). People in a room with you see your spot in that book and what you post there. And anyone with a link can open pages you make: a recommendation, a shared shelf or your year in review. Each shows only what’s on it, nothing else from your stack.#
Do you sell my data?
No. We don’t sell your data and we don’t show ads. Read the privacy notice.#
Can I take my data with me?
Yes. In settings, choose Download my data to save everything as a file, any time. How it works.#
How do I delete my account?
In settings, choose Delete account. Your stack, contacts and passkeys are removed right away.#
Didn’t find your answer?
Send us a note. A real person reads it and replies by email, usually within a day.
